As approved installers of Thor Helical Remedial, QuickBase Foundations and Chance Foundations, SMS can offer you a wide variety of solutions for maintaining and repairing structures that have suffered from damage due to ground movement or settling.

SMS offers a full range of modern solutions including crack stitching, lintel repairs, expansion joints, lateral restraints and remedial wall ties.

Crack Stitching
Helical bars can stitch together cracks in mortar
Crack Stitching
Crack Stitching involves cutting out mortar joints, installing a helical bar and grouting the bar into the bedjoint. The repair is permanent and reduces the risk of further cracking.
Crack stitching can be employed on straight walls and/or on external/internal wall returns. Matching the new mortar with the existing joint mortar means there is little evidence that the helical bars have been installed.

Lintel Repairs
Lintel Repairs
Disturbed or fractured masonry acting as lintels can be strengthened using a helical bar system. The treatment can be combined with general crack stitching or as an individual repair to lintels.

Expansion Joints
Expansion Joints
Thermal stresses in masonry can cause cracking and fracturing in masonry. The introduction of expansion joints in existing masonry reduces the risk of thermal and moisture movements.

Lateral Restraints
Where, in particular, large panels of masonry are present, such as older houses of early Victorian or before, lateral restraints can be installed using flat straps or helical ties.

Remedial Ties
Cavity walls where ties are not present or there are too few. Walls where existing ties have suffered corrosion and are causing damage to masonry. Under all these conditions, remedial ties can be installed in existing masonry, generally from the outside of the building. Corroded ties can be removed and the masonry repaired.

Traditional Underpinning

We can also carry out traditional underpinning work to stabilise and strengthen existing foundations.
